Euronews is banned in Russia

PoliticsEuronews is banned in Russia

Moscow (Times Of Ocean)- The Russian media authority has taken Euronews off the air and blocked its websites in Russia along with other international news outlets.

Euronews, which noted it has not received any official communication, strongly rejects the accusations of “fake news” and calling citizens to protest, with the unacceptable threat of criminal liability. This is an intolerable restriction imposed on millions of Russians who rely on Euronews to get impartial, factual news in a context of rampant disinformation and propaganda.

According to article 19 of the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to which Russia is a signatory, we urge the Russian media authority to unblock Euronews and allow Russians to “hold opinions without interference, and to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of borders,” in accordance with the declaration.

In order to continue to broadcast in Russia the truth about the war, Euronews reserves the right to pursue all legal avenues.

Euronews has been a major independent source of information for millions of Russians for over 20 years, reaching over 30 million households on television and countless more online. In Russia, Euronews is not only the most watched, but also the best known and most trusted international news brand.

Our core values of independence, impartiality, and pluralism are valued by millions of Russians who trust us. Despite today’s unacceptable censorship, our coverage has remained true to these values since the beginning of the war.

We will not compromise on them or apologise for who we are.

Clearly, we want to assure our Russian-speaking audience that we will continue to provide you with independent, impartial and pluralistic information.

Euronews’ Russian-language edition will continue to be available via its digital platforms, which can be accessed through a VPN. A number of additional distribution solutions are being explored and will be communicated in due course.

The Russian-language edition of Euronews continues to provide this service to many other countries. Since Russia invaded Ukraine, its digital platforms have seen an increase in traffic. Euronews’ digital audience in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine has tripled in the last month.
