Ankara (Times Of Ocean)- President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in a phone call on Sunday that a ceasefire and better humanitarian conditions were needed due to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, his office said in a statement.

“In a readout of the call, his office said that Erdogan spoke about the importance of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, implementing peace, and improving humanitarian conditions in the region.”

The statement said that the next round of peace committee talks between Ukraine and Russia would be held in Istanbul.

The next round of face-to-face talks between Kyiv and Moscow will be held in Turkey from March 28-30, Ukrainian negotiator David Arakhamia said earlier on Sunday.

The Turkish and Russian presidents agree to hold the next meeting between the negotiating delegations of Russia and Ukraine in a Turkish metropolis.

Russia and Ukraine will hold their next meeting in Istanbul’s Turkish metropolis, the Turkish and Russian presidents agreed on Sunday.

The Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministers met in the southern Turkish city of Antalya on March 10, which was the highest-level meeting between the two sides since the beginning of the war on Feb 24.

Its unique position of having friendly relations with both Russia and Ukraine helped Turkey win widespread praise for its efforts to end the war.

Several Western countries, including the EU, the US and the UK, have imposed harsh economic sanctions on Moscow.

According to UN estimates, there have been at least 1,119 civilian deaths in Ukraine and 1,790 injuries, though they warn that the actual number is likely much higher.

More than 3.82 million Ukrainians have also fled to neighboring countries, and millions more have fled within Ukraine, according to the UN refugee agency (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR).
