PoliticsIranian MOIS arrests two Europeans for provoking unrest

Tehran (The Times Groupe)- The Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran (MOIS) has announced on Wednesday that its agents arrested two European citizens for alleged provoking unrest and chaos in the country. Iran Protests

The ministry’s public relations office said in a statement on Wednesday that the two Europeans, who entered the country with the aim of inciting public outrage by turning normal popular demands into chaos and social disorder, had been identified and arrested.

According to the ministry’s statement, neither their nationality nor how and when they were arrested were mentioned, but it appears they are from the same country.

As it was explained, the two main components of the mission — organized by intelligence agencies — are experts in the field of riots and instability and have extensive experience in training their local agents around the world.

Among the groups with whom they met was the Coordination Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations. The council has been organizing several protests since last year, leading to speculation that the announcement could be a way to link teachers’ protests to foreign intelligence agencies in order to justify the heavy-handed crackdown.

In addition, the announcement could also be a push to exert pressure on other European countries over the case of a former official charged with criminal conduct in Sweden.

A Belgian court on Tuesday dismissed appeals by three accomplices of an Iranian diplomat who was convicted of plotting to bomb an opposition rally in France in 2018.
